Nyborg Castle

Nyborg Castle is a royal castle established late in the 12th Century. Together with Tårnborg and Sprogø Nyborg Castle constituted the fortification of Storebælt. Around 1200 a ring wall was erected. Prior to 1250 a Palatium in two storeys was erected against the western wall for ceremonial duties and assemblies Danehof. About 1400 another storey was added to the building, and immediately after it was extended to the south. During the Middle Ages the castle was extended to a four-winged construction. In the middle of the 16th Century King Christian III, extended the west wing to the north and fortified Nyborg Castle as well as the ramparts of the town.
