Bauska Castle

Bauska castle (Latvia) is a monument of architecture and archeology of national significance. It consists of a fortress built by Livonian Order Knights in the middle of 15th century, a forecastle converted into The Dukes of Courland's residence at the end of 16th century and ramparts from the 17th-18th century. The building is located at the confluence of two rivers at the top of an artificially elevated hill. The castle was ruined during the Northern war and not been inhabited since the beginning of 18th century. The restoration works were started in 1973. The Bauska Castle Museum was founded in 1990 and now it manages the conservation and reconstruction works of the castle.
